Concert in Campo Maior

At the invitation of the Câmara Municipal de Campo Maior, the Quarteto Euterpe performed at the city’s cultural center on 28 January 2023, in a concert bringing together two central works of the classical string quartet repertoire. The programme opened with Beethoven’s Quartet Op. 18 No. 4, one of six works the composer dedicated to Prince Lobkowitz, which document the moment at which Beethoven absorbed and began to transcend the models established by Haydn and Mozart. This was followed by Haydn’s Quartet Op. 76 No. 2 “The Fifths”, named after the descending fifth motif that opens and pervades the first movement — one of the most expressive and harmonically daring works of the composer’s late output.
